Thanks for all the replies I've had so far. I flew with Aer Arran, at it was a large weekend bag rather than a suitcase, as I was only over there for five days. I'm told that my bag finally arrived in Galway on the afternoon of the 28th, five hours after I'd left on my return flight to Manchester! Galway airport told me they put it on the return flight to Manchester yesterday morning, so I'm now trying to find out what's happened to it back in Manchester. The phone number I've been given seems to be permanently engaged. So I might eventually get my bag back, but while I was in Galway I had to buy a complete set of clothes, so at the very least I want to be compensated for that. Tim W.

They pay out in SDR (Special Drawing Rights) Under the Warsaw Convention, if I remember correctly, you are only entitled to 17SDR's per Kilo of checked luggage, don't know how much in GBP a SDR is today though (Usually not a lot) Earlier this year 1 SDR = £1.00 or $1.50 - Checking for most full service airlines (BA, BMI, UNITED, VIRGING ETC) usually allow around 20Kg in economy so a full suitcase should bring you around 340 SDR's which equates to around £340 The kicker here is they have a fair amount of time to find and they usually do, so you end up with exactly what you should have had (Your Suitcase) but far too late for it to be of any value! Who did you fly with? -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: 30 December 2010 11:53 To: Leeds List Subject: [LU] Non LU: Calling on the collective wisdom of the list Does anyone on the list know how much compensation I can claim from an airline for a missing bag? To cut a long story short, I checked a bag in on December 23rd. for my flight to Galway, and I haven't seen it since. Obviously it caused me quite a bit of inconvenience while I was over there, and although I've got home now it still hasn't been returned to me. I'm now thoroughly frustrated and annoyed by the whole situation, so I want to screw the airline for every penny of compensation that I'm legally entitled to. If any of you have any expertese in this area, can you please get in touch.
