Doesn't sound like anyone else went yesterday - well OK - "disclaimer": definitely seen through beer goggles. Hull weren't particularly good; we didn't wake up for a good 40 minutes or so - difficult to see why really, we'd had a good rest since the last game - something I've come to believe over the years is that Leeds are better when the games are rammed one on top of the other week after week - give us time off and we take our eye off the ball, take up needlepoint, or composing haiku or something - any way. Hull should have scored after 40 seconds. Sitter of the season. Most of our lot just stood around looking at each other puffing out cheeks, going WTF. Onwards and the half-chances start to fall at either end - without anyone really looking convincing. Gradel wasn't in the game, out on the left...Somma and Becchio can't play together, simple as that. Snodgrass wasn't looking particularly bothered and Johnson and Howson were struggling to hold it together. Becchio won two headers in quick succession (the only ones all night) they were defensive headers clearing corners. Suddenly one of their midfield boys strolled unchallenged through the middle, slotted a nice enough ball into the box and into the path of a team mate, 1-0. Kaspar went apeshit at everyone in hearing distance - quite right too. Not long after there's a cross (corner/free kick?) a free header in the 6 yard box. 2-0. Kaspar went apeshit at everyone in hearing distance - quite right too. In this period Kaspar made a couple of decent saves, tipping efforts over the bar. Coming up to half time and the previously anonymous Somma wins a free kick 20+ yards out. Snoddy hit one of those kicks that leaves everyone rooted to the spot...and all you can do is wait for the net to billow. Sweet. That shut the Hull crowd up. Out in the second - much better pressure - Howson and Gradel on the ball - Snoddy murdering them every which way. A cross comes in (Gradel?)Somma takes a flying swing at it, it crashes into the bar and down (Lampard style...only this one counts fat boy) and Snodgrass follows in just to make sure - Snoddy did try and claim it. To acknowledge his feat in scoring his tenth goal in only 11 minutes of 1st team football, our manager subbed Somma off almost immediately. Sam came on, Gradel pushed forward. This gave us better shape and penetration. We looked to win it, but couldn't quite get there...meanwhile they had two efforts cleared off the line. All-in-all, a draw more or less fair enough. and so to bed KASPAR - lots of good stuff and plenty passion CONNOLLY - a quiet effective game BRUCE/O'NEILL - the combination of them at fault for both goals - straight through the middle - but otherwise steady MCCARTHY - linked up better with Sam than Gradel SNODGRASS - a class above at times - top free kick HOWSON - growing influence as the game went on JOHNSON - huffed and puffed, but little came off for him GRADEL - much better in the 2nd half BECCHIO - truly anonymous SOMMA - no one seems to like him (you should have heard the slagging he was getting in the Leeds end), but give him a game and he'll get you a goal SAM - decent cameo PAYNTER/Ross "thingy" the other sub - hardly on before the final whistle blew... _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman-new.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected]
