Well that was as easy.comfortable and convincing a 1 0 as you can get. They
were woeful but unfortunately in front of goal so were we ! Our build up play
on the other hand was, for the most part ,outstanding. Max especially and
Snoddy to a slightly lesser extent  absolutely ripped them apart. The full
backs and defenders were given a real runaround. I lost count of the number of
times Max just left the full back for dead- he really did have them chasing
shadows and on the other flank Snoddy was also beating them with ease. Our
problem was our finishing - Becchio missed two absolute sitters, Max missed one
and on a couple of other occasions took the wrong option,Somma also blasted one
over, Snoddy and Howson also failed to score (one was a good save) Bruce had a
lovely turn and shot that went just wide of the post.
At the back we were largely untroubled with one turn and shot which went just
over the bar the only half chance they had. McCartney does worry me a bit
defensively though - he seems to back off too much for my liking, on a couple
of occasions letting the forward get into the box without a challenge.
Becchio did have probably his worse game for us, but was unlucky insomuch as he
won two good headers that he flicked on, the second straight to Somma who
chipped it over the keeper for a great finish but both times the header went to
someone given offside. Somma was also pretty dire but was on hand to tap in the
goal and as I said finished his other chance brilliantly albeit it did not
count.
Grayson still has the problem with what formation to play - he said he almost
went 4 5 1 yesterday to bring Kilkenny back in, but that Somma deserved to stay
in - well the same will apply next match with Somma scoring again and with
Becchio so out of form he would be a risk as the lone striker,a role that does
not suit Somma - still they are the decisions he is paid to take.
For whoever asked - Connolly was inured and had been limping for a while before
he just kicked the ball out of touch and went off . A big problem if he is not
fit for Saturday unless we do indeed bring in a couple of Premiership stars on
loan as is being trumpeted by the club.
Still ,going in the game yesterday I said I would take a 1 0 win and so I am
more than happy with the result, and who knows, this clean sheet may just be the
one that gives the defence belief and confidence and can be the start of us
stopping leaking goals
