Well a full house (or as full as it gets with ESU closed) were treated to as good a game as you will see anywhere. It was a cracker, with both teams playing some good stuff, plenty of goalmouth action, great saves, woodwork coming into play, goal line clearances and the result changing hands and being in doubt until the final whistle. It also showed us for what we are, a good side going forward that is very shaky at the back. At the end of it all we should have won but cannot be too despondent at getting only one point - the fact that on BBC site SG said we deserved to win, and their manager saying a draw was a fair result bears my view out. We were well on top in the first half and had a couple of chances before a cross was flicked on to Becchio who bundled it home from a yard out - like RIch I am not sure if Becchio did in fact get the final touch, but I am willing to give him the goal.We continued to dominate and cane very close with a Howson shot that came off the underside of the bar. I worried when another chance went begging but was happy enough at the thought of going in a goal up , but then , disaster, just on the stroke of half time our defence crumbled and left a Norwich player unmarked and he finished well. That gave them the lift they needed and the second half was much closer, and indeed they took the lead when bad defending again let them in. SG made a change and brought on Somma - i said it was too much to expect him to score every time he came on but he proved me wrong in seconds when with his first touch he hit it on the volley and it hit the net - a class finish. Both teams continued to press and only a great defensive header stopped Somma doubling his tally. Then with a few minutes to go we brought on Paynter and he so very nearly got the winner but his well hit shot was matched by a great save and so we had to settle for a single point and Paynter has to wait even longer for his debut goal. Like I say it is hard to get too down after such a good game and performance but our poor defending again proved our undoing. So roll on Tuesday and a chance to avenge that 5-2 shocker at Oakwell Dave _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman-new.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected]
