Hello, long time reader , first time writer...! I just wanted to dispel one myth that is currently being repeated and has oft been touted Smith did not place himself on some kind of sacrificial altar in a trade with the devil to go to Man Ure for the sake of the best deal and Leeds fans.
I am the same age as Alan Smith and at the time of the move he was seeing a girl I knew and I met him on a couple of occasions along with some other friends, one of my mates asked him aboyt the move to Man Ure and he said he wanted to go to them to win trophies and he wasn't interested in going to any other clubs, a deal with the scum had been in place for some time and he never had any intention of going to Everton or any of the other offers. My mates took the mickey for some months afterwards as I had always taken the stance of he would never go there hes Leeds (how young and naieve I was!). I am not saying this to incite some kind of hatred or to say he shouldn't come back etc, but the whole he did it to save Leeds thing is not strictly true and was just a happy coincidence that Leeds got a better deal. It was also tweeted by his ex girlfriend ( a different bird to the one I knew) some weeks ago when she hacked his twitter account, if anybody sw that. On the player front, I would have him back if I thought it would benefit the team, we are two centre mids down so picking one up on a free could be useful as I still feel we need more CM's, on the other hand this is a player wrong side of 30 who hasn't played for over a season, and has never really convinced (apart from maybe the newcastle championship season) as a midfeilder. Although with his wages I doubt we arer in contention anyway.
