One time when one of my omens did work out - unfortunately - was on the first day of the Ashes series before last in Australia - the one we lost 5-0 - ...........I was bunking off work to go home to watch the opening day's play, and as I walked across the tennis courts, I happened to glance up and saw a cloud that was the shape of Britain. Yes! I thought...........that's a good omen. A couple of minutes later, I looked up at it again, and unbelievably, it had changed shape, and was now the shape of Australia! And so it came to pass that The Ashes passed from our possession to Australia's.) Anyway...........further background: when I am on a long drive across Europe, I occasionally keep myself (mildly) entertained by making up sentences or pithy phrases from the letters on German car number plates. (German plates have a satisfyingly wide range of letters.) If anyone is still with me, we are nearly there. (Aside: has anyone else read Tristram Shandy? In case you couldn't tell, I am reading it at the mo.) Yesterday, I saw two cars consecutively on the way to the airport in Munich with the following plates: ASTL and MO. I took these to be a good omen for us. Does anyone who has read this far want to have a go at suggesting what I made up for these two?
