Hi, Just so that I can get the picture:

Was it really 4-4-2 or was McCormack playing the 'Howson' role - more like
4-2-3-1?

I guess with Nunez and Snodgrass always looking to come in onto their stronger
foot, it makes a 2-man centre midfield less exposed. Perhaps this is one of
the benefits in putting players on what nearly 50 years of conditioning would
make me think is the 'wrong' side.

Also it looks like in Clayton we've finally got somebody fit/strong/good enough
to play with Howson in the centre of a 4-4-2. As Brown is the only other
possibility in there, the squad looks more of a 4-4-2 squad a the moment.

Defensively having used 2 right-backs, 4 Centre Backs and 3 left backs in 4
games, we still don't seem to have it cracked. I think grayson is doing the
right thing in easing Lees in slowly. Playing him at Right back will get him
used to playing at that level/pace in a slightly less critical position. Then
perhaps give him the odd 20 mins in the Centre when the odd game is
comfortably won. With Bromby, O'Dea, Bruce, O'Brien, Kisnorbo in the squad,
there ought to be a decent pairing in there somewhere.

Sounds like bringing back Howson for Brown, but leaving Max on the bench would
be a good idea.

Regarding Left-Back, I think White is worth a go. I've always liked the
balance of one attacking and one mainly defensive full back, and as whoever
plays on the left is bound to be right footed, White's pace on the overlap
might be useful.

On the whole, much more hopeful for Sunday, and the rest of the season.

KOT.
