So.. how is this one Bates fault? From the horses mouth

OUTGOING winger Max Gradel insists he is leaving Leeds United with a "heavy
heart", but admits he couldn't turn down the lure of a return to France with
Ligue 1 outfit St Etienne.

The Ivory Coast international is currently undertaking a medical with Les
Verts after they agreed an undisclosed fee with Leeds for his services
yesterday evening and the transfer is expected to be finalised shortly.

Speculation has raged over the future of Gradel, 23, all summer, with last
season's players player of the year and fans' player of the year handing in
a transfer request yesterday after being increasingly unsettled over his
future.

On his move to St Etienne, who beat rival Ligue 1 interest from Sochaux and
Nice, Gradel said: "It is with a heavy heart that I have asked to leave
Leeds United.

"It was a difficult decision for me as Leeds has been a wonderful place to
live and play football. However, I have made the decision based on my career
development and the opportunity to play at the highest level in France is
too big an opportunity to turn down.

"I want to thank all the Leeds United fans who loyally follow the team up
and down the country as you have made my time at the club very special. I
also want to thank Simon Grayson, my team-mates and everyone at the club for
all your help and support and giving me the opportunity to play for
