The Leeds United Supporters' Trust is absolutely delighted to announce that
Nigel Martyn has agreed to become its honorary president.
The popular Cornishman, simply 'Big Nige' to Leeds fans, established himself
as an enduring favourite in the course of the 207 games he played for Leeds
between 1996 and 2003 and, in the difficult years since his departure, his
popularity has grown further.
Trust Chairman Gary Cooper is delighted to welcome Martyn on board, "We're
completely thrilled to have Nigel on board. He's a hero to Leeds fans for
all that he did for the club, and a likeable, popular man who epitomises
integrity. It's great to have a figurehead who will help to unite LUST, and
who'll represent the fans publicly with such decency. We couldn't be more
delighted"
Nigel himself commented, "It's an honour to be asked to represent Leeds
fans. I consider it a privilege to have played all those games for Leeds
United, and it's saddened me to see what's happened there in recent years.
Everyone in the game knows Leeds are a special club, and a lot of that's
down to their fans. They've stuck by their team in amazing numbers, and I'm
lucky to have the opportunity to fulfill this role on their behalf."
We would like to take this opportunity as a Trust to welcome Nigel on board
and we are looking forward to working with him in the future for the benefit
of Leeds United fans.
