Mike, The Chelsea Pitchowners was the idea of the Malignant Stoat when he was in charge there, when Chelsea were having a period of financial instability - shocking as that may seem under his chairmanship.
Basically there was a risk that the ground could be bought from under him, so to prevent this he set up the CPO and literally sold the ground by the square foot to the fans, the big carrot was that anyone who bought a share would get a ticket to the impending FA Cup Final. He als gave them a members only bar space in the ground and installed a business associate of his as head of the whole thing. Once the shares were sold and the cup final tickets were gone, the whole thing went on the back burner until now. Apparently Roman has offered to buy the shares for the original £100 that the members paid, however they want a slightly larger sum, allowing for Roman's considerable wealth. The sale of Stamford Bridge could be the endgame for Roman if he get's it as the value of the site and any property developement would be huge even by his standards, certainly a good point to take his money and go to buy the New York Jets or whatever..... As for him doing it at Leeds, to make it float it needs to be attached to something to sell....if we make the playoff final it wouldn't surprise me.
