The ground is now being 'tarted up' so it's got the 'Premier League experience' mularky for the plastic fans.
The debts have gone, sure some of the profits have ended up offshore in 'someones' account! But the books show 4 years of a positive balance sheet. The 'global brand' is still there, still in the top 5 merchandising sales worldwide by English clubs. The fanbase is (Just) still there, dropping rapidly thanks to a lack of good investment, a chairman's ego and Yorkshire common sense in a recession. But the classic, clichéd 'sleeping giant' tag is there. The missing piece is some money to invest in the squad and that won't come from Mr. Ken Bates. He's 80ish, has reputedly had some health problems and it will go one of two ways, he'll sneak us back in to the PL just so he can wander round all the other boardrooms out ego'ing other chairmen. OR, he'll sell and disappear into the Monaco sun to while away his remaining days sat on a fortune that no tax man can get to, smug and happy that he's 'beaten the system' again. That's why!
