The club my lad plays at is properly accrdited with the FA and provides
a great environment for boys to learn football. it has close links with
Bradford City, and some other clubs, so plently of lads get brought to
the attention of professional clubs. There's more than 40 boys in my
lad's age group (U-8s), and every weekend we put out 5 or six teams
(some 7 a side, others 5 a side). All in line with FA guidelines and
the mini leagues are all organised to make games between evenly matched
teams. The whole ethos is in line with FA guidelines about developing
young gtalent and encouraging boys to love the game.
I've just enrolled for a day's coaching course (it's the most basic
course) and paid £40 for the privilege of doing so. Now I don't mind
the cost (after all it's only the price of watching 2 hours of LUFC at
home), but for the price of say ten weeks wages for an average
premiership footballer (or less than a day's Sky sponsorship) the FA
could give every chartered junior club two free coaching courses a season.
I doubt any of you will be surprised by this, but it's another reminder
about just how far removed the Premiership is from 99% of the rest of
football.
