The writing was on the wall for Adamson early on when he got rid of John
Hawley to Sunderland in exchange for Wayne Entwhistle. Hawley was a
Somma-type who had been a successful goal scorer at Leeds. Entwhistle had
been an Adamson protege at Sunderland but was useless-imagine ball playing
skills not as good as Becchio's, combined with Keogh's eye for goal.
I vaguely recall us getting beat at home one saturday afternoon with
Entwhistle being particularly dire. At the end they used to announce the
other results and show them on a screen on the kop. Sunderland, had won 4-0
and Hawley had scored all four. They should have got shot then and begged
Armfield to return.
