Couldn't believe what I was hearing - "there'll now be a minute's silence for Gary Speed!" What?? I only saw him on TV yesterday, but yes, it's true. Shocking doesn't cover it. Really sad and upsetting. I was there on his debut - 6 May 89 in a drab 0-0 against Oldham - day after my birthday and weren't we always playing Oldham in the 80s? From then on Gary Speed was part of a team which lit up our lives! That midfield - Strachan, MacAllister, Batty and Speed - Jesus, it was like the second coming! Speed didn't score tap-ins - he scored from towering headers, or screamers from the edge of the box; he would defend as if his life depended on it, and boy could he tackle! He was a thorough-bred, the quiet man of the team, an Adonis and he typified everything we wanted to be! He was pure class! Whatever the cause of this was, and I genuinely wish we never find out, he'll be in Leeds hearts forever. Peace, Love and United! _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected]
