I guess everyone will read it through the filter of their own views, but the way I read it is that he wouldn't sign a new contract until he knew for definite we were going to be in the Premier next season and with that in mind the Club wanted to cash in rather than run the very real risk of him going for nowt. I also seems from reading what he allegedly says that he doesn't bother to watch matches while he's injured.
