I agree with Rich, this was yet another disappointing day down at ER.
We played Ok and were a tad unlucky tolose or at least they did not deserve to
win, given their lack of ambition. Having said that, they looked a very
organised and disciplined team and we really struggled to break them down, Fist
half we tried to play everything through Becchio, a move that was bound to
fail, despite his brilliant header for the equaliser, Him and McCormack just do
not gel together. Neither Delph nor Clayton despite their undoubted talent seem
unable to take a game by the scruff of the neck and run the show. Our best
player, Snoddy , found himself surrounded by 2 or even 3 players every time he
got the ball,  In fact that was the main difference between the two teams today
- every time we got the ball we had a Brighton player right on us, whereas
their men always seemed to have time and space. Their  first goal was a
straight forward corner that came to an unmarked Michail - Smith who slotted
home. What on earth was the defence doing
letting a goal poacher, who had just come on the pitch, getting time a space
inside the 6 yd box,  We responded well with a corner of our own which was met
by Becchio leaping like a salmon and scoring with a great glancing header.
Their winner came when we gave the ball away in front of goal and Lonnergan
(who had made one great save earlier) made a hash of a straight forward save.

We huffed and puffed most of the game but apart from a good penalty shout for a
foul on McCormack, a ball acrross the 6yd box that Becchio could not quite
reach and a Tom Lees header straignt at the keeper we did not create much.
Redfearn did not impress as manage when he dallied about bringing Townsend on
and did nothing  to change the game as it started to slip out of our grasp
second half as they took a bit of control

As I said at the start a disappointing day and you have to wonder what is going
on - sacking a decent manager, albeit one who was not really taking us anywhere
(whether his fault or Bates' take your pick) but not having anyone in line to
replace him
