We pay money for players, we pay money to agents - so why in this case would you be sure that there wasn't going to be a fee included in the £1.5m Bates' claimed it was going to cost for this player? You assume that the £1.5m is 100% player salary, which is what Bates wants you to believe. I'd be more inclined to believe it includes a fee (transfer or signing on), agents commission, NI contribution and relocation expenses.
