Leeds United Supporters' Trust are delighted to welcome the first international group to join our growing membership. Leeds United Americas, a group bringing together Leeds fans from across the USA, Canada, Brazil and throughout the Americas have come on board with the Trust. Over the weekend of our protest march many fans have also taken up membership of L.U.S.T. taking it past the 4,000 mark. According to the latest figures from Supporters Direct, L.U.S.T. is now the 6th largest trust in the U.K. Leeds United are a club with a proud tradition of attracting support from all corners of the globe, and L.U.S.T. are pleased we can increasingly reflect that in our membership. One of our board members is a U.S. resident and a member of L.U.A., and the addition of the members of Leeds United Americas proves that the aims and ambitions of the Trust's Campaign for Change are shared equally by Leeds supporters who follow their team from afar and by those who attend Elland Road every week. L.U.A. are extremely encouraged by the work being undertaken by L.U.S.T. and that, coupled with the appreciation for the global nature of Leeds’ fanbase shown by L.U.S.T., has convinced them that the time is right to throw their backing behind our initiatives. In addition, the Trust regrets the Chairman’s references to members of its board in his latest interview on Yorkshire Radio (15/2/12). Firstly, our board member residing in America is not the vice-chair, who was in fact born and raised in Yorkshire and lives in Leeds. Secondly, to answer the remarks about the Trust Chairman’s attendance at Elland Road, Gary has shared ticket purchasing duties with members of his family in recent seasons, and like many Leeds fans his purchasing record is not an accurate reflection of his attendance record. Anyone who would like to discuss Gary’s match attendance is welcome to find him in the Kop, at seat N5 EE 123. These inaccurate and personal attacks serve no constructive purpose in our opinion. The broadcast of personal data is of particular concern, and the Trust will be taking legal advice about possible breaches of the Data Protection Act. The L.U.S.T. board is made up of a diverse group of individuals who give up their free time to help the Trust achieve its aim of supporting a successful Leeds United. The board is elected by the Trust membership on a three year cycle, and is answerable only to its own members. The board will continue to work to find ways of ensuring that Leeds United fans’ voices are heard, irrespective of their nationality, location, or ability to attend matches. L.U.S.T. are currently supporting work to organise a ‘Seven Minutes for Seven Years’ protest at the Southampton game on 3rd March 2012, which will be shown live on Sky Sports. To express their concerns, but without adversely affecting the team’s performance, dissatisfied Leeds fans are to be asked to stay outside the ground until seven minutes after the game begins - one minute for every year of Ken Bates’ chairmanship - before taking their seats and supporting the players as they look to take three points from Southampton. Fans should look out for leaflets and flyers at the Doncaster match, and keep checking for updates on www.lufctrust.org, as well as our Facebook and Twitter pages.
