MILLWALL have banned a supporter for 10 YEARS for goading Leeds United fans with a Turkey flag at the New Den. Leeds fans Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight were stabbed to death in Istanbul ahead of a UEFA Cup semi-final against Galatasaray in 2000. And some sick Millwall yobs taunted opposition supporters with the Turkish flag during Saturday's 1-0 home defeat. The Lions have worked tirelessly to keep thugs away from the club and they have confirmed the culprit who smuggled in the flag has been banned. Club spokesman Deano Standing said: "The man concerned was apprehended after the match and is not welcome at our club for an entire decade. He has been banned. "We worked so hard with Leeds to make sure this game passed off without trouble and it did — but the club does not condone the behaviour of a minority of the crowd. "It is disappointing this person got into the stadium with the flag as there were checks in place. "There is no place for that kind of thing at the Den." Last April, the Championship side banned four supporters for waving Turkish flags in their 3-2 win over Leeds. The South London club last week warned such flags were banned from being taken into the stadium ahead of Saturday's match. But FA and police chiefs will be alarmed that one was being openly paraded on the terraces. There were also sick chants of "always look out for Turks carrying knives" and "Istanbul" coming from the Millwall terraces. A police spokesman said: "Millwall have banned a male for a considerable period of time for waving Turkish flag at visiting fans." _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] PETE CASS (1962 - 2011) Rest In Peace Mate
