I started a new job on the 15th or 16th January 1996 - I got my first ever access to the internet and was shown Netscape. Of course the first thing I typed in was "Leeds United". List membership was the same day, list netiquette guide was immediately digested though the bit about avoiding the Wilko Out debate only lasted till the Wednesday ;)
