"Becchio, the first touch of Carlton Palmer "

That made me smile - reminded me of my favourite Big Ron quote - "Carlton
Palmer can trap the ball further than some people can kick it".

Things are getting dire at ER.
It was frustrating watching Swansea on the telly today. Same division as us
last year but a million miles away now.
People talk about their style of play and the plan they have. It made me think
- do we have a plan? (and I'm not counting give it to Snoddy and hope he does
something as a plan). In fact I don't remember the last time I watched leeds
and thought the players were following some sort of game plan. They seem bereft
of ideas which I think is why we look better away from home. Teams attack us
and we can hit them on the counter. They tend to come to ER and sit back and
basically say play through us if you can. Sadly we can't.

Who to blame?
Bates is the obvious target - best players sold and not replaced , alienating
the fans , premier league prices etc. The most damning thing is that somehow
the spirit has been sucked out of the club and the fans. I don't remember a
time when I felt so disillusioned by football in general and leeds in
particular. Admittedly , I'm too young to remember the dark days of the early
80s but I'm fed up of feeling like we've no direction.
Grayson has some things to answer for too. There seems to be an issue with
fitness amongst the players and he was in charge of their training for the bulk
of the season. We have a fairly large squad but mostly of players of a similar
(low) ability. Too many players not playing is never good for morale. The big
question (and one we'll probably never get a straight answer to) is who decided
on the signings made. If it was Grayson he deserved the sack. If it was Harvey
etc , they need to be held to account. If we only signed the best available
under the constraints set by our beloved chairman then we're back to bates
again. I'd love to know who thought Danny Pugh was worth £500000!

I hope that Warnock is given free rein (and cash) to oversee a massive clearout
and signings in the summer. I don't think we need to spend a fortune (it hasn't
done Leicester any good) but we need to sign the right players. Swansea have
shown what can be achieved if you have a manager with a clear idea of what he
wants , both in terms of players and playing style , and a group of players
that buy into that plan 100% and give it their all.
