Yesterdays 2 games pretty much summed up why I don't watch and don't like
football any more (LUFC and slightly England excepted)
I was out all day and when I got home I flicked on the TV to see the result of
the play off game. With awful timing I turned on just as West Ham were going up
the steps at Wembley to pick up a trophy!
A trophy for what exactly ? For coming in the top 6 but not good enough for the
top 2 ! FFS a day out at Wembley and a trophy as a reward for failure - crazy.
I do like the play-offs, I accept they are not fair but do keep the season
alive for many teams right until the end, but don 't pretend it is a great
achievement. You are there because you failed to get automatic promotion.
I remember being annoyed / disgusted when we played Donny at Wembley - no, not
at our performance, that came later- but at the build up pre game with
fireworks etc. as if the teams had done really well to be there and should be
proud of themselves .
We should (but won't) go back to the two legged final and it should be barred
from TV - the players should have to be smuggled into the ground in shame and
not be allowed to celebrate (OK may be a step too far but you know what I mean)
Then later in the night I get a call from my lad telling me the Champs League
final has gone to penalties in case i wanted to watch them.OK I did turn it on
- penalty shoot outs are great fun BUT what a crap way to win the 'biggest club
game in the world' To see Chelsea players running round as if they had WON was
stomach turning (I soon switched over) Penalty shoot outs are fun and are the
only way of sorting things out sometimes but not in a final.
So you have Chelsea and Liverpool parading trophies they have 'won' but in
truth they just drew the game - total nonsense !
