This is difficult to fix without spending more than the printer cost. If you don't need access to the scanner over wireless, your best bet is:
http://www.raspberrypi.org Will run linux and then you can set up the printer as a shared printer. You need to use an open source driver which doesn't fully support all the kodak features but it's a start... Alternatively, you need to pipe the USB protocol from your laptop over something and there options out there but they will all cost more than the printer itself, or indeed the next model up that includes the wifi. I suspect you'll need to strategically place and hide a cable. USB is good for 5 metres without active repeaters but I have it succesfully running over 8m woithout much of a problem.
