There’s a campaign to bring forwards the inquest of Kevin Williams, one of
the 96 supporters killed at Hillsborough, because his mother has been
diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer. The Attorney General has said that
he recognises the “additional urgency” her terminal cancer brings. On
October 16, Attorney General Dominic Grieve announced he intended to apply
to the High Court to overturn the discredited inquest verdict
of “accidental death” and order a fresh inquest into the deaths of all 96
who died at the 1989 FA Cup Semi-Final.

Kevin, was 15 when he died at Hillsborough. Her mother has always disputed
the coroner's verdict of accidental death, particularly since it was
proven that her son was still alive 45 minutes after the time when the
coroner had earlier ruled that all victims were dead. Police officer Debra
Martin has described how, at 4pm on the day of the disaster, Kevin had
opened his eyes and said "Mum" before losing consciousness.

In order to speed things up, an e-petition has been launched calling on
the government to get a new inquest into Kevin's death brought forward as
soon as possible. Over 20,000 people have signed the e-petition already,
10,000 were needed to prompt a Government response, Mr Grieve's office has
issued a statement saying he was “deeply saddened to hear of Anne
Williams’ diagnosis.” It adds that Mr Grieve “continues to give this
matter priority” and stresses that “he recognises the additional urgency
this sad news brings to the process and will make his application as soon
as he possibly can”.

But before the e-petition can be considered for debate by the Backbench
Business Committee should it pass the 100,000 signature mark.

Please consider signing the e-petition, it’s at
