This was the clash of the match and one of those old fashioned tussles between 2 players going at it for 90 minutes. Really good stuff watching how it developed, how the ascendancy changed and how each tried to adapt their game.
Zaha is an outstanding prospect, excellent pace, great control, lots of tricks and strong. He looks a real handful. In the opening exchanges he had time and space and ran at Byram causing him all sorts of problems. He went past both inside and out, sat him down with tricks and all the rest. His final crosses were a bit hit and miss, but that will come with experience and practice. Green began to get back and give Byram cover. Which undoubtedly helped shore things up for a while. But Byram began sticking much closer to his man, not letting him turn and run. Getting his foot in as early as possible. Byram also began reading the ball out to Zaha, and intercepting before it could get to him. Most of all he didn't let himself get phased. One great piece of play was in the second half, when Zaha got the ball near enough half way, and ran at pace down the wing before cutting along the deadball line heading into the box, Byram, stuck with him, albeit on the inside line before eventually getting a toe in just before Zaha went to play the cross. It was really good defending, proper judgement of the timing of a tackle...just like Gary Kelly used to do. (oh and it wasn't a penalty at the end of the first half...never touched him) Byram (MOTM) Their Number 17 was a lucky bugger, he could have been sent off twice. _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] PETE CASS (1962 - 2011) Rest In Peace Mate
