Well it was not an action packed, end to end game with lots of chances and goalmouth incident BUT it was 3 hard earned and deserved points on a TUESDAY and against the team currently lying in third. We got off to the perfect start, the ever impressive Byram ran at the full back and into the box where he was brought down - clear cut 100% penalty but a stupid tackle from the defender. Up stepped Lucy ah no Becky Oh - and he kept up his current penalty expertise as he hammered it into the side netting, a very good pen. In fact I thought Becchio had a good game and was robbed later on of a goal from open play. He was put through, looked onside and the flag stayed down, then after he rounded the keeper and was about top slot home the lino decided that he had better put his flag up and so it was chalked off. Becchio was involved a lot last night and was part of our best move when his cross was brilliantly met by the impressive Green who volleyed goalwards but Smichael (who is a c**t and so is his Dad, according to the song) pulled off a top class save. Chances were very much at a premium - I can remember another offside which stopped Diouf scoring - or maybe not since he ended up on the floor heading the ball whilst lying down and it trickled past the post -the whistle having already gone. Norris had a decent long range shot and Brown had the chance to close the game out with 10mins to go but his shot flashed wide. At the other end in the first half they had one shot from an impossible angle that flashed past the goal, and their forward sliced a shot wide when presented with a good chance. Second half they pressed more and we defended with a mixture of skill and determination coupled with desperation but I can only remember Paddy making one save when he tipped a long punt from Smecihal over the bar. So we held on and kept a clean sheet - according to Sky our first league victory on a Tuesday since the 4 0 win at Forest the day after Gary Speeds death. Yesterday was the anniversary and we had both a minutes applause and the 11mins chanting of his name on the 11th minute
So a good performance and result - Thomas looked lively before being subbed on the hour . Tate looked cool and controlled at the back, and the addition of these 2 and the return of Green and Norris seemed to add urgency and tempo to the performance. We were first to the ball all over the pitch first half and although they came more into it 2nd half we never really looked like conceding. A few more results like the last two and the season is back on track So all in all a great night watched by a very low crowd - the new owners will need to address the reasons for that and quickly (I don't think an email from Pelts as received by some of my mates is the answer Roll on Hudds - I am sure Colin will have us up for the derby and 3 points are there for the taking Dave _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] PETE CASS (1962 - 2011) Rest In Peace Mate
