I was gobsmacked to see Austin play.
Because Somma was out so long he had more time to be match fit.
Physiologically that was not true with Austin. A fracture to fully heal
takes a good few months. When could he have fully started training?
Sommawas in all sorts of training sessions some of which were
postponed. It
seemed crazy at the outset of the game.
Which brings me to Colin:
I don't think that he is the man.
He has always looked for a quick fix promotion. He had one aim: Grinding
out results with flairless football played by proficient experienced
journeymen. I think that this concept is wrong. Even so it's execution is
terrible. The bedrock of such an endeavor is the defense. That is
nonexistent, not established either with personal or expertise. Of the four
proponents for back 4 status he bought three of which none opened
yesterdays game. We still shipped in 4 goals.
There is no mid field general and no concern about its lack either. The
'only needing a striker' is BS.
If anything it's the one part of the team where we could get along quite
nicely without reinforcements.
So Colin has a bunch of leaking hoofers. They cannot marshal a defense.
They cannot get the ball out of defense to some decent ball playing
attackers. In fact Diouf, MacCormack & now Somma are an embarrassment of
riches in Colin's general scheme of things.
The worst part of it all is that the tacit 'explanation' of blaming MS
doesn't hold. Colin managed to set up the defense that he wanted in the
way that he wanted as with the mid field. And they are diabolically useless.
Having watched Forest yesterday I too thought that they were a very poor
team who got lucky for 15 minutes and won't play clowns like us every week.
Well done the management for having the balls to sack O'Driscoll.
Our season is over. I don't want Colin to waste the money. We'll limp to
the mid table ignominy with maybe a mini cup run.
Come June we have to see if our Colgate poster boy really has teeth and
whether he has balls. Colin is not the answer.
