I see what you mean, Ian, but Clough was the architect of his own downfall at
Leeds. If he'd come in with a more magnanimous attitude, he might - MIGHT -
have won the players over, but to come in and to tell a roomfull of champions
(including the captains of Scotland, Ireland and Wales, back when that really
meant something) that they owed all their medals to "cheating" was abysmal
man-management. He couldn't have expected anything other than the sack with
that sort of imbecilic behavior.

Brian Clough achieved extraordinary things with Forest. To win the old Second
Division one year, the League Championship the next and the European Cup the
next two years after that is an achievement that likely will never be bettered.
(Think about it, Forest under Clough won the European Cup the first two years
they were eligible. ManU under Ferguson have won it twice in 26 years.) But he
wasn't the right man for Leeds at the time. If the board had appointed Giles,
we might have had a chance. If Clough had come in with a more self-effacing
approach, we might have had a chance. Neither of those things happened. But
even with Jimmy Armfield in charge, we were two bad refereeing decisions away
from being European champions that season.

Cheers!

Sean

Cheers mate.
Just think if we had have kept Clough. Cantona moment in my opinion.
Love revie but who cares, really? He left us. We should have stuck with Clough.
