It's been a good year for me, sports-supporting-wise. Over the years I've built quite strong allegiances to 5 teams in 4 different sports, all of which I follow as avidly as I can, generally speaking. These teams are, in chronological order of my taking up support for them: Leeds United, The Washington Redskins (NFL), The Leeds Rhinos (RL), The Alabama Crimson Tide (College American Football) and The New York Yankees (MLB). The advent of Internet viewing being available for the 3 US teams has helped things considerably (and indeed in the last two cases has caused the supporting to start at all).
In the last few months, The Redskins won their division, the Rhinos won Super League, 'Bama won the National Championship and the Yankees won their division. A couple of them could have done better, but that's being greedy - in reality, these are heady days indeed for me! And then we have Leeds United. The season promised so much, with the take-over supposedly happening right at the start (ha!), but even with that being so delayed, the belief was still there that this would herald a new dawn for us much beleaguered fans. But I'm finding it harder and harder to keep the faith. I'm still a believer that we need to give them (all) until the end of this transfer window to see what we are really capable of under the new regime, but if they fail to come through by February? I am having to constantly convince myself that there's any point in bothering anymore about my longest standing sporting love.
