Well bloody hell that was good...how come we only get a performance like that
once every three years? Clearly the players can do it, the team has it in
it...as a regular attending supporter days like this do my head in - the
unalloyed joy of the moment twinned with the sour realisation that we'll get a
proper tumping next week.

We earned that; we matched em. Bloody well done lads. You've all seen the game
and the goals, so I'll not bang on about that, except to say, how nice to see
some football from this team...wonder what's changed recently. There were some
long balls but there were also some intelligent balls over the top, that turned
the defence and led to 2 goals and almost a couple more.

how bad was the ref? There were a lot of decisions we didn't get that we should
have.

PLAYERS....

ASHDOWN - solid game - couple of decent saves, took some high balls well, seemed
to instil confidence in those around him...should be our number 1 choice?

BYRAM - this was an 18 year old kid half way through his first season up against
one of the hottest properties in European football and, in boxing parlance they
stood toe to toe and fought to a stand-still - superb game from this fella - he
got done a couple of times and if I'm being hyper-critical was half a yard too
far off Bale when he crossed for the goal...but still superb...my MOTM

WHITE - the other full back - he did a similar job on Lennon (in fact I reckon
the good form of both FBs was why Spurs switched Bale and Lennon after 20
minutes.) His pace being easily his most useful asset yesterday

LEES/PELTIER - absolutely rock solid - blocking everything - winning headers -
getting the tackles in - the goal and game saving challenge from Peltier with
about 5 minutes to go, was as astounding as the goals. This is our CHalf pairing
from now on.

In fact this is our back 5 from now on.

GREEN - was quietly effective plugging away in midfield, filling gaps, covering
Byram (particularly in the last 10 minutes when he got cramp)

BROWN - I really dislike him...but this was his best game for us by a country
mile...here there and everywhere annoying Spurs in general and Scott Parker in
particular...which has to be worth something on its own...so can he do this
every week...?

AUSTIN - really put himself about - possibly trying a bit too hard at times -
but put in a really good shift...ref should have left it 5 more seconds before
blowing and he would have had a goal from the half way line at the end...told
you the ref was a bastard.

VARNEY - won everything in the air - astonishing leaps - scored a great
goal...had a long time to think about it, but slotted it away nicely after
running 40 yards with it...which is just as well cos Ross McC was screaming for
the square ball.

DIOUF - magnificent - as with Brown, as we going to see this level of commitment
every week - winning headers, chasing down and all the rest of it - you got the
feeling he really enjoyed himself yesterday

MCCORMACK - couple of really good chances he should have scored from, one stone
wall penalty, and a cracking goal - excellent all round performance, lots of
movement...pulled their back 4 all over the place.

Somma and Pearce came on towards the end but didn't really contribute much.

We played some really great stuff and got properly stuck in when we lost it -
fantastic team performance.
