No Becchio and no goals , this is what happens when you let your top scorer
leave , we, for once, dominate possession but without the prolific
Argentine we could not find the back of the net !
OK that was tongue in cheek but in truth we never really created chances
despite having an awful lot of the ball in their half.
The close range shot by Barkley from Dioufs free kick and a great header
from Tom Lees , both of which were well saved by the keeper was the sum
total of our shots on target. In fact some of our shooting was literally
laughable - Austin had a long range shot that ballooned up and came back
down to him and he shot again, and again he totally sliced it into the air
, that made me chuckle. Brown and Varney also had shots that went nowhere
near the goals.
I missed the Spurs game so cannot compare the two games, but certainly this
was a lot better performance than many we have seen at ER this season.
Typical that we win 6 on the bounce in the league, most of which we did not
deserve to win, and yet yesterday when we did , just about, deserve a
victory we actually got beaten.
The back four , Byrams schoolboy error apart, is starting to look pretty
solid with the Lees, Peltier centre back pairing looking particularly
strong. So solid were we that their goal was pretty much the only clear cut
chance they had and that was a mixture of awful defending and a mis-hit
shot from Bellamy that was going wide but instead went to Campbell who
tapped it in.
We are still lacking a wide player and so looked unbalanced at times, and
we do lack pace (hopefully Morison will help there)
I think Austin needs dropping, he is nothing like the player he was at the
start of the season, Barkley needs to be moved centrally with Green playing
wide (unless the rumours about Boyd coming here are true)
As for Habib , I know he only arrived here a day before the game, but to me
he was a cross between Tresor Kandol and Enoch Showumni with the bad bits
of both. He will need to show an awful lot of improvement to make any
impact here - at least it is only a loan deal so I suppose we cannot go far
wrong.
As for Cardiff fans -446 is terrible - there were 3 very drunk Glaswegian
Cardiff fans on my train to Leeds so I do not think that it was a bubble
trip (though it could be they got tickets in our end?)
I think we can kiss the play offs goodbye now and so the season is in
danger (after the City game) of tailing off in a sea of mediocrity and I
think GFH need to decide about Warnock. Is he going to stay beyond the end
of the season and do they want him to ? If the answer to either of these is
'no' then I think they should look to terminate his contract and bring in
the new manager now so he can have a proper look at things and decide what
needs to be done. We need a long term plan something we have not had since
we brought in Sgt Wilko and explain it to the fans and hopefully get
everyone behind it

Dave
