You're being mighty kind, Dr. Benjamin.  Mighty kind.  Oh, I agree that he
was working under very difficult conditions.  No one can seriously contest
that Bates was (is) the ultimate culprit.

But I cannot quite get past that "lost the plot" bit.  Look, Warnock was
not the first manager who had to coach with one or more hands tied behind
his back.  Few managers have the luxury of building the team the truly
want.  And many managers manage to get results from a squad that ought not
get them.  Warnock did not do that.  In fact, while none of us labor under
the misapprehension that our current player personnel represents a
promotion-worthy sideŠI also believe there are few who would question that
by nearly any measure the current side has underperformed.  That, sadly,
is down to Warnock.  That is down to his tactics, his man management and
his footballing style or lack thereof.

Yes the working conditions were hard.  But, unfortunately, Warnock was
Value SubtractedŠnot Value Added.
