"we are Leeds United and we're passing the ball"
So sang the (albeit sparse) crowd midway through the second half and to me that
pretty much summed it all up. McD has only been here a few days but he has
totally changed the way the team plays for the better.
Ok we still did not score in the first half, we did not win by more than one
goal and we still had a shaky last few minutes, BUT overall it really has been
a McDermott revolution even if it is too late to matter in a meaningful way.
I know he has only managed us for 2 games and the real test will come over the
close season with his transfers in and out, and then next season on the pitch
but the early signs for McD are very encouraging.

Last night he brought back Lees after suspension and kept Varney upfront and
recalled Diouf from the start and Tonge.
We totally controlled the game (against poor opposition) and apart from one
incident in the first half where we had a header cleared off the line and
Varney headed the rebound onto the bar, we never looked like scoring but we
played some nice to watch passing football.
Second half was much the same with apart from the goal, Varney and McCormack
came close whereas Kenny did not have a shot to save. We saw a great dummy by
Varney and a lovely back flick by Diouf as the crowd were entertained. Of
course all this passing and skill is no good without getting the win and to do
that you need to score. and we did. and what a cracking team goal it was,
We managed to put ten passes together then lost the ball but won it back and
had another 4 or 5 passes that led to a lovely cross field ball from Ross (?)
to Diouf who controlled it and put a brilliantly weighted ball onto the penalty
spot where Austin ghosted in and slotted it home - proper football

So an enjoyable night and we look a totally different team as we passed the
ball and got stuck in as well - 2 crunching tackles by Warnock in the space of
a minute showed that despite the change in ethos we will not become a soft touch

It is a shame we could not have brought McD in when there were enough games
left to get in the play offs but I am already looking forward to next season
such is the lift we have had and the optimism now around ER
