oh dear I hope it's a bargaining ploy "well we want to buy X, he wants to come and you need rid of him, but I don't know if my owners will give me any money....make it a couple 100K less and i'll have a better chance of persuading them"
but I'm a bit worried that (a) McD apparently has deals lined up but doesn't know if he has permission to buy them (don't they already have planning meetings and telephones?) but (b) why this is being said to the media.
