To me the big test is not so much whether we sell Byram (or indeed McCormack) - every player has his price and these days the players have the power, so it is nigh on impossible to keep a player who gets a great offer to play in the Prem etc, it is what happens with the money.
We have seen loads of players leave , starting with Delph maybe, but even when we get a decent fee, so that the sale seems a sensible idea, we never have never seen the money get re-invested in the playing staff. With the Delph money we all hoped it would bring in 2 or 3 decent players , players who would greatly help the team and make us better but we never saw it get re-invested. Beckford is the only player we managed to keep and that was a decision based on him staying and getting us up and leaving on a free, rather than selling him for £1m and trying to replace him. We got that one right in my opinion. Byram is a different position, once he has an offer that tempts him , we are almost bound to sell , that is how football works, you get a good player and a 'bigger' club tempts him away (just ask Crewe) this even happens at the top - look at Spurs and Bale or even scum and C.Ronaldo - once a bigger club offers enough money the player leaves. It is what the selling club do with the cash that counts I think Byram is quality and could ,injuries etc permitting, go on to play at the very highest level and be a top international player, so it is a matter of when we sell him rather than 'if' I would take £5m cash now if it means we can get 3 £1m players to replace him Dave ________________________________ From: Andy Clayton <[email protected]> To: John Lee <[email protected]> Cc: Leeds List <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, 3 July 2013, 13:09 Subject: Re: [LU] Noel Hunt And Byram with a £3M bid from Palarse.
