Hi gang

First so many thanks to Dave, for all his greatly appreciated accounts and
efforts.

Good to be back at ER yesterday, I think last season was the first I have
missed seeing a single match. Interesting how different it feels to have
Bates gone at last.

Verdict. Great atmosphere, hope it keeps up. On the pitch, didn't think
we looked like we'll walk the league, but have a typically fair chance of
being one of the ten twelve teams in with a chance of the playoffs.
Reasonably impressed with the young debutant, but other than endeavour and
a baying crowd there wasn't really anything to get too excited about. No
Snodgrass for example. No sustained passing and move. Noone terrifying
their defence. Generally poor quality of final ball. Get a decent crosser
down the flank and could have been quite different.

My view fwiw.
Kenny. Proved a doubter like me wrong with several excellent saves 8
Peltier. Absolutely not a captain imo! before game, after gaing a goal down
he just kept himself to himself and quietly got on with his own game.
Assume Brian is waiting to transfer in his real captain. Otherwise, I
thought he played some neat football, and showed a decent football brain. 7
Warnock. took corners so i guess he can cross, so should get forward more
and do it.showed moments of his pedigree but also showed either a lack of
fitness or of nous. 6
Lees. Was not as commanding as expected and looked seriously at fault for
their goal, liked his distribution at times. 6
Pearce. tried hard. would like to see both CBs show more threat in their
box. 6
Green. great engine, great determination, won a number of 30/70s through
desire, interception, well played. 7.5
Murphy. Was impressed with his desire to get on the ball and play. Played
some good passes, won some good ball, seemed immature on occasion, but I
was quite excited , had a great shot and was there to win the game. 8
Tonge. I have to admit I don't like Tonge, but as the game got underway, he
was the one taking the game by the scruff of the neck, he was involved and
displayed a great range of passing and commanding confidence. Disappeared
in the second half - was that a fitness problem or did Brighton do
something about him. 7
Hunt Great endeavour and nearly came off quite often. I think he worried
them more than anyone, except nothing did come off. he seemed to be poor at
judging the flight of the ball either receiving or passing. If he gets his
sights sorted, looks OK. Does he score many? 6
Mccormack twinkle toes reminded me of himself, great movement, good brain,
some skill on the ball and not quite as dangerous as he appears. Then he
scored. get in! He was our busiest attacker, and on this display I'd make
him our captain, he was the one most trying to make things happen and to
gee up his colleagues 8
Varney. impressed by hiswillingness. Managed to beat his palyer a few
times and get in the right places. His great prowess in the air wasn't
evident but a good effort.7

Poleon, Drury, Smith. All looked competent without pulling up trees. Great
header from Smith for the goal.
