Spot on report Rich, agree with it all.

What a great day! For once in years there was a buzz, and feeling of
optimism, not only in the ground but before and after round town too.
Bates gone, sun shining, first game of the season, one-nil down and a win
with a last minute goal - it doesn't get much better than that!

After the match, due to being a nice day (and massive queues for buses), we
decided to wander back from the ground into town.
We thought (mistakingly as it turned out) that we'd have a few pints in
Holbeck before getting to town.

Holbeck - never the greatest place for a drink but definitely not now!!!
Brittania - boarded up.
Old Spotted Cow - burnt out (sometime ago I think)
Bull's Head - boarded up.
King's Arms - now looks like offices!

So, on to town via The Commercial.

The Commercial (Marshall St): pretty crap boozer but at least it was made
better by being served by the legend (regardless of his Bates associations)
- Peter Lorimer. Even now at 50 odd I'm still a bit starstruck. (He
scored 2 goals on my first ever visit to Elland Road, Feb 1968 vs West Ham)

On towards town past the old impressive Temple Works Mill further down
Marshall Street...

Once on Water Lane we came across a few pubs I didn't even know existed -
all with decent sized beer gardens - just the job on a sunny post-match
Saturday:
Cross Keys - free house serving guest beers and Kirkstall Brewery ales.
 Excellent
A few yards further on, The Midnight Bell - Leeds brewery - absolutely top
form Leeds Pale, for me, the new Tetleys!
Towards Granary Wharf, Pour Street (see what they did there?!) Guest beers
and WharfeBank Brewery. A couple more sat in the sun with a few Cajun
Chicken Wings before heading over the river to The Hop (got a bit too
popular now for old folk like me - it was far too busy at the bar!)

I fully recommend the walk - we'll be certainly doing it again (weather
permitting!)

Things then went back to basics after The Hop when we went in Prince of
Wales, Spencers and the bar in station!!

Altogether a brilliant day. If there are any more undecided people out
there - get back to Elland Road!!!!
