Russell is the cousin of the NZ test cricketers Jeff and Martin. The latter played cricket at Menston in the mid 80s. Maybe Russell visited Jeff, went to Elland Road, was smitten with the silky skills of Ormsby, Baird and Aizelwood and was thus conscripted to become part of our incurable brotherhood.
