Just seen this link - this was my FIRST ever trip to ER !! I had been to both Maine Road and Old Trafford to see us play a number of times before this (my first ever live game was a 0 0 draw at Old Trafford in 1967) I had (still have) an elder brother who was (still is) a scum fan and my parents had put in place certain rules about match going - at first had to go with an adult, then at 13 years could go on his own but had to be 16 to go to away games I had argued for a while that since I was a Leeds fan , Elland Road was a home game and not an away one - my parents argued that Leeds was not Manchester and so ER was an away game - I had turned 15 in Feb 1974 and eventually persuaded them that I should be allowed to go and they relented and let me go to the last home game of the season to the above match. I can remember taking butties and a book to read (an Agatha Christie of all things) to read on the long train journey ! I can remember getting lost on the way back to the train station post game and was amazed to see buses to Middleton (there is a Middleton in Manchester 5 miles from where we lived - I did not know there was one in Leeds , and no doubt loads of other places) and thought I would suss them out for getting to the games the following season. I knew we won 3 2 but have no real recollection of the game - just knowing that I loved it and could not get enough - the following season I went to all bar 3 home games and have been going regularly ever since - 39 years worth !
