Hi,
I'm not sure it is a good or a bad thing that Leeds rarely seem to partake in
the over-hyped fiacso that is Deadline Day.
On one hand we are all aware of the requirement for certain improvements to the
squad. On the other we didn't lose anyone important.

It is all a bit crap anyway, as half the deals done on deadline day are loans,
and the loan window opens again in a few weeks time anyway.

So where are we now? 3 live games + a few highlights have given an armchair
like me the chance to have a good look.

Defence:- IMO looking better than it has done for years. Peltier is looking
like a right back finally, Byram coming back, Warnock and Drury both steady. At
Centre Back Pearce is looking better, a bit slow, but has other attributes that
a C Half needs. Wooton and Lees looking steady too. Kenny is quite a good
keeper, but I'd have blamed him for QPR's goal on Sat.

Midfield: - Looks solid but uninspired. McDermott seems to have tweaked his
'Diamond' a bit after getting outflanked in the first half at Ipswich. Green &
Austin look strong but short on creativity. I think Murphy has a bit to offer
- good touch etc, but is out of position on the left side. Need some width.
I'm not sure what happened to Hall who was regarded as quick with a decent
scoring record when we signed him, unless we actually got the rugby league
player instead.
Tonge hasn't done much wrong and looked good in the first game. I'd try to
find a place for him.

Forwards: - Disappointing both in terms of goals and general play. As Rich W
says I don't think anyone knows what position to play McCormack in. He is
almost the type of player you have to build the team around. My preference
would be to play him 5-10 yds further forward than he is, behind one striker.
The trouble is none of the forwards we have can give us pace, goals and be a
lone target man. (or even 2 of those 3).

Overall I'd like to see McDermott just try Diouf (who looked useful on
Saturday)or Tonge on the left and kick Hunt out of the team, pushing Ross a bit
further forward.

Looking at the team/squad I reckon it is definitely top half, possibly
play-offs, but no chance of the top 2 or 3.

KOT.
