I did indeed go, but am seriously rubbish at
reports. I am such an infrequent visitor (sadly)
that I cannot give a real assessment of individual
players - mostly as I hadn't a clue as to who was
who - but I can say a few things...

I went to the game with the young son of my next
door neighbour as the guest of an ex player and
as we took our seats I commented on the teams and
felt that I was surprised we did not start the
game with Poleon and Smith playing. Prophetic or
what?

The game got underway and it was apparently within
the first few minutes that we were the also ran's
in this game. Burnley looked much more lively and
their passes found someone playing in the same
colours, which seems to be something Leeds has a
problem with. I also noticed that for all of the
game, until Smith came on in the second half, we
did not win a single header, but we kept pumping
the ball upfield in the air? The only time we
looked like we meant business was when we played
the ball on the ground and when the team for a
short period decided to "Get stuck in" and got
serious about tackling. Other than that, frankly
we were crap and Burnley thoroughly deserved to go
in 2 goals to the good. One point to mention was
just before half time. There was a penalty shout
for us, which I was exactly level with and had a
clear view of. It was a definite push and should
have been awarded. We wuz robbed!

Second half - more of the same until the subs came
on - Poleon and Smith - almost immediately we
looked a different team, Poleon went off on one of
his pacey runs and put the fear of God o e Burnley
defence and smith was winning headers and so
became a target man. Inevitably we scored and now
we were making a game of it. Sadly in sort of
fizzled out and there was to be no more excitement
other than questioning how quickly 6 minutes
injury time can move (3 minutes at my reckoning).

All in all I thoroughly enjoyed the day, but only
because I was back again in the ground watching
the lads. Thank Christ I don't have to watch this
sort of performance each week. I feel for you guys
who do.

Some observations: I kept an eye on Austin as I
have seen much from others as to how bad he is. OK
he is certainly not polished, but he was far from
the worst player on the pitch. He obviously means
business when he goes in for the tackle and I saw
no particular evidence of bad passes, but then he
didn't do too many of them - he was as good as -
or as bad as, the rest of the team really.

AS I said, not a detailed report, but more the
feelings I had from the day - sorry for the lack
of real content

Cheers

Steve G
