Damian, I am a SOTL (soulie on the list). There may be several. I don't think anyone's ever asked. I am still active on the scene, still dancing, but not collecting - I was out on Saturday night at a soul night in Leeds in fact.
Northern does seem to be on the up at the moment - press coverage, Culture Show programmes, new films coming out, and dos that actually have people under the age of 40 attending them! If you're looking for a place to go check out Soul Source http://www.soul-source.co.uk/, they have everything from here to Japan. But steer clear of Northern Soul Classics, and the venues frequented by baggy and vest wearing, green bag soul patch carrying, polyveldt shoed types, unless you want to hear played out oldies that have been heard a million times.
