It is clear that the current team is not good enough - without more pace , width and ability we are likely to drift away from play off contention and the season just peter out (I doubt we will be toying with a relegation fight as happened last season from a similar position at New Year) Brian McD has brought in Goby Ariyibi (sp?) along with the recent acquisition of Marius but has been quoted as wanting another 3 or 4 players.
This puts GFH (and McDermott) in a bit of a quandry - if we fail to bring in players then the goodwill which GFH have built up and the sense of optimism around the place will disappear. Fans will think that we have seen and heard it all before and the attendances which are now hovering around the 30k mark every week will drop and maybe even plummet to Bates-like crowds. However we also need to make sure that we do not just buy players for the sake of it and end up with more deadwood to go with the other out of favour players who are a big drain on our resources - Diouf, Norris, Green, White (who are all supposedly injured in some way but are unlikely to play whatever,) plus some of Drury, Brown, Warnock , Pugh, Varney, Hunt - who most fans would view as being of little use to the side in the future. Every manager from the top of the Prem downwards have said how hard it is to pick up decent players in the January window but somehow Brian and GFH (or whatever the 'new' owners will be called) need to buck this trend and show the fans that they have cash and the foresight to spend it but to somehow acquire players who are better than those we already have and who will be of use in the coming seasons ! They also need to act quickly , looking at the games coming up, or we will be cut adrift of the play off pack - there is already a bit of a gap between us and the top 5, a gap which if it is allowed to increase will put us in the position of fighting 4 or 5 teams for the one remaining play off spot. At least tomorrow gives us a bit of a break from the day to day stuff and I am looking forward to the trip to Rochdale, a game we should win but one which their manager has already stated has the feel of a possible cup upset ! Sorry if this is long and/or muddled and/or boring, but it is a Leeds United list and this has got to be better than so-called honour killings in the Middle East !!!
