A few thoughts ...
I thought this was a poor, brainless performance but a good result in very
difficult conditions. To play in conditions like this you need to keep the
players close to each other, try and play it really short and progress quickly
up the pitch. This was far too much for both teams although I thought in the
seond half Byram, Kebe and Macca showed how it could be done. It was only when
Austin or Murphy got involved it tended to break down. Yeovil are a proper 3rd
division team yet I thought they did better against the wind than we did.
Scores:
Kenny - 5. Looked shaky
Bryam - 6. Really poor first half, reckless tackle for the pen but second half
he showed he does have an understanding with Kebe which for me is the one of
the few things I am looking
forward to seeing in future weeks. I think this could still prosper if Byram
was playing right central midfield.
Warnock - 6. Worked hard, a few aimless balls but generally did ok.
Lees - 6. I thought he did ok but they would have been through a number of
times had it not been for the wind.
Pearce - 7. I thought he defended pretty well.
Austin - 5. I thought he was poor throughout. Nearly gifting them with a goal
second half and overhitting lots of passes. He also was weak for their goal.
Why is BMD playing him in an advanced position ?
Murphy - 4. What is he offering ? Ok against Town I thought he played his heart
out and showed a bit of ability. He was anonymous first half apart from a
couple of ridiculous long balls and second half, although he got more involved,
he just fouled and fell over. Needs to be better than this.
Mowatt - 2. Worse player on the pitch. Ok, he didn't have the luxury of a second
half to improve with the wind as the others did, but my God, he was terrible
in the first half. Aimless balls. I'm not sure about this kid.
Kebe - 6. A mixture of poor, average and good. First half, not much apart from
conceding possession and falling over. Second half he was a real nuiscence and
he began to take control like he did against Town.
Stewart - 4. Anyone know what he brings apart from a few stepovers ? Luxury
player ?
Macca - 7. I thought he was our best player. Looks aon top of his game. Not
everything came off but he looks sharper than ever and actually does look now
like a poor man's Wayne Rooney. You really do expect him to score every week.
Subs:
Smith - 2. Awful, awful, awful.
Good result but not a good performance and everyone wil point to the conditions
but surely we can do better than this ?
