15/32014 – Update – it was a month yesterday that our world was turned
upside down. Today. as of this morning. when I got in:

Not on oxygen support, no IV plugged into body anywhere, No feeding tube to
the stomach, no drips anywhere. Still has catheter. Weekend doctor came in
this morning and said that sodium in blood is dead centre in the normal
range so no more blood drawn 2-3 time a day. Liver scan was normal, kidneys
still in recovery and producing too much urine but that is showing signs of
improvement. His output yesterday was in the minus figures so had to catch
up to get it back to level yesterday. That is partially my fault. Long
story short….got a shard of glass in my foot and spent 3 hours in A & E
yesterday morning with not luck at removing it. Had enough of
nurse-practioner digging around with scalpel and tweezers and signed myself
out and went up to Steve. Talk to Steve’s doctor and he told me to hang on.
Later in afternoon (about 4:00pm) told to go back to A & E to see actual
doctor at St James. They lied to me and made me go to LGI and got there at
4:20pm and doctor there came straight away to work on getting glass out of
foot (embedded next to bone in meaty pad under big toe), 4 stitches, big
bandage and special shoe and told not to walk on ball of foot, havwe
stitches taken out in two weeks, antibiotics for ten days - I’m good to go.
4 ¼ hours I wait to get transported back to St James and arrive back the at
9:15am. Steve is fast asleep. I am dead tired and my foot is absolute
killing me, so I stay at the hospital on the hard sofa once again after
getting chased off the more comfortable sofa on the main floor by the
security guard, despite explaining the situation with my foot and Steve.
During the day, Steve didn’t drink or eat as much as he should have. No more
injuries for me. Today - He ate a bit better and drank loads more. Not huge
and he is still on the nutritional drinks twice a day. He absolutely hates
them but won’t refuse to drink them if I tell him not to. “I’m in charge”,
so he says. I bet that doesn’t last long once he gets fully rational! The
rubbish talk is leaving him. He still has his moments. Doctor says that
that will clear as he get moving around more and eating properly. Physio is
back on Monday for his work out. They want to try to get him in a chair by
the end of next week. I hope they hang around to get him back into bed.
They are gradually working to getting him to a commode chair. One – for the
obvious reason and two – to be able to wheel him to a shower. He has to be
able to get back onto the bed when he is done for either reason. He tries
his hardest but gets very wore out at the moment. He did scratch his nose
today. Naps are frequent. All in all, the doctors are very pleased with
him and the staff, doctors and I are getting along better. They keep me
informed and don’t just do stuff without telling me why and in turn telling
Steve why and I don’t raise hell. Its nice and quiet in there and everything
gets done. All in all - a good day. A great day will be him sitting up and
eating and drinking on his own and doing some walking around! Going to bed
now. Have had a busy two days and I’ve not had a shower today, but could
care less at the moment.
