interestingly Redfren had ruled himself out in the way he has before. Given a choice between Steve Clarke and Redfern I'd probably plump for Redfern because he knows more about the players and the club, BUT there's nothing more depressing than your "heroes" being exposed as mere mortals - see Bremner, Allan Clarke, Gray et al.
