Indeed. Fun though this nostalgic tour of striking disasters of yore has
been, there was an awful lot to admire about Becchio. He came to us from
lower league Spanish football, and worked hard on his game whilst he was
with us. He was never God's gift to football, but his physicality and
handling of the English game improved every season as did his (still
flawed) hold up play.

There was a widespread view in league 1 that "that was his level" yet on
our step up to the Championship he was one of our most successful players
to the extent that he got a Prem team to bid and pay for him (though
admittedly not play for them very much when they realised what they had
bought).

And whatever ructions Colin tried to pretend were there at the end, he
always gave his all on the pitch for the team and gave every appearance
that it mattered to him and he took pride in what he did.

I always like that type of footballer - the limited player, who knows he is
limited, but does everything he can within those restrictions to make
himself as effective as he can be to them team. Chapman was always the
epitomy of it of course (and of course a much better players than Becchio).

I contrast that to Doukara (who I just don't like) who only seems to come
alive when he as the opportunity to go on another one of his one man
charges through the pitch and can often otherwise seem disinterested.

I think all fans, but especially Leeds fans at times, can get too hung up
on what players can't do, and forget what they do bring to the table and
value that.
