Hi Damian! I'm just reading this email now, so I've missed you yesterday and I'm not in Madrid tonight (I live 25miles north of the city).
I'm sure the areas of Madrid I list below were still the best back in the 90s but for places to go: - the entire street that is C/Cava Baja in the La Latina area and surrounds - the area up above C/las Huertas before the Plaza de Santa Ana - la Plaza de Santa Ana itself is a bit touristy but still OK, and from there towards Sol it's a sea of bars - el Mercado de San Miguel is worth a visit - C/Manuela Malasaña, Bilbao metro (up a bit from Tribunal metro) For Irish bars: - James Joyce, C/Alcalá opposite the ayuntamiento - Triskels, very small but good, near Tribunal metro - The Irish Rover, Avenida de Brasil, up north of the centre near the Bernabéu (spit spit!)
