Last 3 home games and we have had absolutely nothing to enjoy in any of them. Today was Forest and Blackburn mark iii. We lost and deserved to lose, and on this occasion we lost to one of the poorest teams to come to ER and go away with 3 points. We have no excuses, no explanations, no-one to blame. We have seen us lose to Preston and Birmingham when we could not cope with a big lad up front, we have been outclassed by any number of teams - think Cardiff with Bellamy in their side, we have self imploded (Rachubka v Blackpool) and we have been 'robbed' by dodgy referees or had 'just one of those days'. This was none of these, we lost to a very poor team because we were worse than poor. Yes the weather with gusting winds playing a part did not help us, but that is no excuse. We basically had one great move that ended with Byram controlling it with his first touch and hitting it with his second. We did nothing else of note in the whole game. We had Antenucci on his own up front to start and Phillips kept his place. Neither of these really worked and both were subbed to be replaced with Morison and Sharp. The replacements went on to show why they do not deserve a start. Elsewhere Bamba played more like Bambi and Silvestri showed that we need a keeper who can do more than just save the odd shot. The goals all lacked quality and summed up the game as a whole. First a corner was not cleared, Silvestri saved but palmed it straight back to the attacker who prodded home. Our goal was a follow on from the Wolves gifts last week, a hopeful cross into the box, the keeper was fooled by the wind and then fell over and it left Phillips with the first , and however long he plays , the easiest goal of his career. Instead of building on this we let them have a few more chances - the best when Bamba missed the ball and their lad was through one on one but he messed it up (I thought Silvestri saved but ref gave a dead ball so maybe he pulled it wide)Not much else hap pened till they got another corner later on and another goal as our defence let them have a free header, Silvestri again seemed to get a touch to the first attempt and was helpless for the follow up. So just when we thought that Bamba had solved our defensive woes and that corners would not be our undoing, he had a nightmare and they got 2 goals from straightforward corners hit into the box, nothing clever about them. We huffed and puffed a bit but to no effect and the game as has the season, just fizzled out to a chorus of boos and general disenchantment among the fans. It was strange to have no away fans in the ground but is was poor play and a lack of effort and skill that killed the atmosphere So with Norwich to come on Tuesday and then Rotherham as our last home game the season cannot end early enough for us all Dave _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected]
