I fully agree. I have to say though, I will defend Super League and County Cricket! Due to business reasons, I've had a lot if involvement at Headingley for the last 5 years (long may it continue!!!) and have seen close up the sportsmen involved. Firstly Rugby League, I have not met a more down to earth, friendly and genuine bunch of pro sports people as the Rhinos. No airs and graces, fantastic athletes and more than willing to engage with 'Joe public'. The sport is fantastic at engaging with young, old, male, female and has a real community spirit to it. Does it rip it's fans off? No. But it is a business and has to make money. The Sky money obviously helps, but £15 for an adult with huge discounts for kids to watch a game is hardly a rip off. Yes the replica shirts are constantly being re-invented but even they aren't the £50+ you can pay for footy kits. They engage with their public and there IS a sense of togetherness between club and fans and players. The same goes for YCCC. county cricket itself is in crisis but at the moment at Yorkshire, they have a production line of fabulous talent who are easy to engage with and honest individuals. Again, in a sport which struggles to get 1500 to a county championship game (despite the heritage, the facilities, being county champions, playing great cricket etc. ) prices are low. The shirt sales are needed, but it's good honest entertainment when you watch it. I don't know the figures, but I would guess only a handful of the sportsmen involved in either team are on 6 figure salaries. And therein lies the rub! Once big money gets involved. Shit happens.
I still blame Bosman. :) > On 15 Apr 2015, at 10:59, John Lee <[email protected]> wrote: > > I think it's called getting old and realistic chaps!!
